What's wrong with Penang nowadays?

warning : this post had some element of Penang bashing. If you are a Penangite and feel uncomfortable of ppl bashing you, pls leave immediately. Take this post with a pinch of salt.

Was listening to the radio this morning when I heard this topic was discussed by the DJs on air. They were basically getting listeners to call in to voice their view on what have gone wrong with Penang nowadays.

I thought back… it seems that lately (2-3 yrs or so) Penang had been in the limelight for wrong reasons – Penangites being kiam siap (selfish), Penang rivers were damn dirty (and still is), Penang dams drying up (50% dry as of the news this morning), stuffs like that.

These are my personal views on what have gone wrong with Penang nowadays :

1. Too many cars on the road, causing serious traffic jam on the island. This will lead to a lot of pollutions – noise, air – and hazards too – accidents, stress, road bully. Eventhough we have bigger and newer roads, it's never enough, as there bound to be bottleneck somewhere, thus causing traffic jam

2. When there are many cars, there bound to be many stupid drivers as well. When there are stupid drivers, they tend to make stupid mistakes and stupid things on the road, that will eventually lead to accidents. Accidents will lead to more traffic jam and eventually, more stress on the road :evil:

3. Stupid drivers make stupid ppl also. These stupid ppl will hog anything in sight : roads, shopping malls, food stalls. Favourite phrase for these ppl : If I ain't getting it yet, nobody will get it just yet. Sounds familiar? Yeah, it's Kiasuism's distance cousin.

Got to blame the state gomen for the foul up in Penang.
They promise to cleanup the mass since the time of Mahathir till Pak Lah but still its full of sampah!

They created oneway streets in order to overcome traffic jams but jams became worst. Now the gomen embarks on a 2 billion PORR project,which will in my opinion akan PORR..rrdah!!! akhirnya,while a few will be smiling their way to the bank.

Number of vehicles including bikes are increasing daily. Do U think all these drivers has lesen??? Your guess is as good as mine. About 60% of them tata lesen lo!!!

So how to solve the problem? Enforcement very very poor,service lagi poor so what can U expect????

U got to come to Penang & see for yourself.

Yea man, one way is still not a way to go… For one thing is that even though our roads are getting bigger but too many stupid people with car will continue to cause the traffic jam. My idea?

Get the enforcement officer to monitor the driving condition. Catch a slow coach and fine them for causing a traffic jam at the back. This should reduce the problem significantly…

fren of mine gives no face to drivers if the cars they drive are penang license plates.

he says penang drivers should be banned from the roads altogether… to him, calling them idiots is like paying them a compliment.

personally, me agree with him… :mrgreen: (ampun to all the non-idiot penang drivers).

apart from penang drivers, he also says to stay clear from perak, melaka & johor license plates… they're just as bad if not worse.

perak drivers: drive like ah bengs… no regard for rules or others.
melaka drivers: tend to hog the road & they're mega clueless.
johor drivers: ultra kiasu drivers (mebbe cos of the close proximity to sgp).

hehe.

haha, i feel ur blog doesnt live up to the warning's standard la. anyway, when the ones who call the shots in the government have their own interests in mind, the state's wellbeing just have to make do with being second class.

All the things you list down seems to be happening in the whole Penisular, not only in Penang.

True, but I can't compare to other states in the Peninsular mar.. the longest I stayed in one place is in Penang. The most I can compare with is Sg Petani…not that bad, but that's different story altogether…. :roll:

Wahlau, Penang bashing…. mana boleh? I have to step up and defend my good for whatever thing Penang.
Hmm… Penang drivers are bad. I think not lah.. problem is that there are the fast and potong-potong drivers, and there are the slow and clueless drivers. Add both up, chaotic road scene. Speaking of roads, must mention on the lubangs-lubangs on the roads. Sigh…. Then the one way streets, bottle-necked roads……….
So did I do a good job of defending Penang?

one of the many things i despise is those people who create a self declared lane to squeeze into a single lane road up ahead. (eg. the jam to go into the underpass every evening. it's so rude to squeeze in with cars that have been patiently lining up on the correct lane to use the underpass!Traffic will go smoother if everyone queue up properly and wait for their turn)
Road users got to change mentality, enforcement people got to take more action. :wink:

Leslie,thats our culture…tak sabar!! blame nobody except diri sendiri..why??? coz everybody is so sibuk & need to get away fast. :mrgreen:
