I have always known that our National Anthem, Negaraku, was based on the tunes of Terang Bulan, which was the Perak state anthem before Independance. And also, I have always thought that Terang Bulan was locally produced, or at least of this archipelago - as it was quite a famous tune back in the 40s both in Tanah Melayu and Indonesia - until I heard this tune this morning:
