Parenting 101?

With all the parenting sites and guides around, i can’t help but wonder whether all this guides and sites does anything much to help with our current situation now. There’s way too much domestic violences, incest, abuse – to name a few – lately that I kept thinking what’s happening to our world now.

No doubt – i would say – that people these days are more well-read when it comes to parenting – there’s magazines, books, websites, forums, talks – and I dare say that people these days are better-equipped with knowledge to plan ahead compared to their parents. I haven’t reach that parenthood stage yet (although I should have already by now :) ), but i guessed i can somehow get mentally prepared with all the websites and book that I’ve read before. Personal experience as a child helps too :)

When my parents first got me (i’m the eldest of three), they were both in their early 20s. Back then, there’s no books or guides or magazines on parenting to refer to. The only help they have was their parents. But, being far from home, that wasn’t really an option – my grandmom were only there to help them during the first 30 days of birth. I guessed that’s what the natural human instinct kicks in – seek help wherever you can as if you were living your last breath. I guessed they did just fine with me :)

In my opinion, it eventually falls back to the natural parenthood instinct to help in bringing a fine baby. I think there’s no hard rules to follow when it comes to parenting – any guides or books that you read are just meant to guide you and that should not dictate what you should or shouldn’t do. It still falls back to common sense and parenthood instinct to know what’s best for your baby. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t read or trust anything you read – just use your senses when you are thinking of doing something. After all, the parenting guides are written by experience parents anyway :)
