I’ve got my new toy - Axim X51v - and now I want a new cell phone! And of course, what better way to get a new cell phone than getting a free one? I don’t mind any phone at all - Motorola Razr range looks kinda cool as well.

But why would i want a normal cell phone when I can get a Blackberry for free as well? Oh yes - not only normal phones are given - smartphones and Blackberry are up for grabs too!

See my point here? Each time you sign up for new cell phone contract, you get a free phone. And those free phones are not crappy ones - you could get one of those cool phones above. Seriously, the deal is getting better and better, day by day, that the ones smiling at the end of day are the customers. I really wonder what kind of margin these cell phone service providers are playing with.

In Malaysia, we have those promotions as well - free cell phones with every new service contracts - but most of the time, the phones given away are some crappy, outdated phones. The phones given are normally the ones you wouldn’t want to be associated with. I’m still waiting for the cell phone service providers in Malaysia to be more like their US counterparts in promotion - at least i can say that I’m proud to be subscribed to any particular service provider.

But then again, if every service providers have that here, i would foresee another problem - people keep changing service providers every now and then to get new phones. I foresee myself doing that also - if the free phones on offer are worth the hassle of changing service providers. Hello Maxis, Celcom & Digi - when are you guys gonna follow the footsteps of Wirefly???
