Jalan Jalan Cari Makan Malaysia :)
The department that I used to work in organise an event in conjunction with the Merdeka Day. One of the event was to write poems. The theme was Makan Makan Malaysia – means you have to write a poem, English or Malay, using only food related to Malaysia as the basis.
After dusting out spiderwebs from my Mendocino lodging and scrubbed my poem skills, here’s what I managed to churn out for the contest. If you don’t understand Malay, sorry ler….
Nasi Kandar
Semua Suka,
Kampung Bandar
Pakat Leka
Roti Canai
Memang Sedap,
Mamak Kedai
Orang Hadap
Sambal Belacan
Idaman ramai,
Cuba sepinggan
Syurga tercapai
Ais Kacang
Sejuk segar,
Putar kencang
ais yang segar
Putu Mayam
Kegemaran semua,
Macam Tomyam
Siapa tak suka?
Wantan mee, Kari Mee, Hokkien Mee
Tiga jenis mee, tiga jenis citarasa,
Lagi elok dari asyik makan Mamee
Kalau tak suka boleh cuba Laksa
Kita Orang Malaysia
memang hidup untuk makan,
Tahun Melawat Malaysia
Jalan Jalan cari makan!
What’s great about it? I was one of the 10 selected poems. Hehe 
To think back, I only used 15 minutes to write that poem.
