Remember my Customer, But Not Customer post? Yeah - i think i owe you all an explanation, and what I would do in the situation. The observation was made on the very same day, in fact just about 20 minutes prior to posting the blog post. It just happened that i was at the McDonalds at that time to have some ice-cream and happened to chance on the event.
What happened then? I was with my wife at McDonald’s in Sg Dua for late ice-cream snack, and was chatting away when i saw this 2 person walked in and sit somewhere quite near us. Yes - literally walked in the restaurant, and straight to their seats - one of them was already unloading a stack of files or something. I was thinking, maybe they would order something later after discussing on what they’ll eat.
Wrong. They just sit and look thru the files. Looks like one of them was trying to peddle some kind of insurance to her mate. Yeah - typical - i can recognise somebody selling insurance from a distance and by the way they talk. They kept on talking without any thoughts on the restaurant owner. I remembered seeing signs that no solicitation allowed in McDonald’s - well, i guessed it’s still ok if those people actually order something to eat while doing their business talks. But these 2 were obviously just taking advantage of the situation.
Damn it - i was furious on behalf of the restaurant owner. If it was me who’s managing the restaurant that night, i would have go over and ask if they’d like to have anything to eat. If they answered that they would not order anything, i’ll just have to ask them to leave. Yes - it would create quite a scene, but remember - i’m the restaurant manager, and i’d definitely would want to keep all tables available for my paying customers. And oh - if they still insisted on sitting and not ordering anything, they may have to consider having a Washington DC nose job later on - someone may have a broken nose!
