Stupidity always rules
There was one fine day, when my badge (a.k.a access card) couldn’t open any doors at my office anymore. So i did the natural thing – i went to the security post to get it re-done or sorted out. Only to be dragged for 4 days. Why? The person in charge was either not there, or just walk out of the room. That’s just the beginning.
When i finally get to see the person in charge, he tried the badge (for like 2-3 scans) and concluded that my card was faulty and needed to be replaced. All in less than a minute. And it has to take 4 days. Even car insurance comparison didn’t take that long.
So i went over to the security guard on duty to get the form for a new badge, and i actually asked if i needed to submit another form for my notebook sticker (the one we have at the back of our badges and notebooks – in pair). The answer given was “Tak payah – nanti boleh koyak jer”. I was like, ok, it’s the hologram-type sticker and doesn’t look tear-able. But they were the expert, so i just left it to them.
2 days later my badge was done, so i thought finally i’ll be able to use my card to gain access. The security guard on duty (the same one) requested for my card, tore the picture part of my badge away, and place a new picture on the existing card. And she asked me to try it out, all the while my old access card was still there.
Of course it won’t work! But since i don’t want to act like a smart-ass, so i just tried it out and surprised, surprised – it didn’t work. The security guard looked dumb-fcuked at the whole thing, and suggested that i see the badge guy again. Which mean another 1 day. Damn. Why did i even trust some dim-witted guard with this?
The next day, i went to see the badge guy again. This time, i got him at one visit. Showed him the “new” card, and he proceeded to test – of course it won’t work, idiot. Then he just say, “Oh, your access card cannot use, wait a while i change a new one for you”. Finally! Changing card means changing notebook hologram sticker as well – which lucky for me, i got that already.
Total days of productivity loss = 7 days.
Reason = Utter stupidity of the so-called experts.
Great. So much for simplifying IT.
