Full time dad for 1 week
Today is the 2nd day i become a full time at home dad to take care of Nadia. This whole week it’s all about me taking care of Nadia at home alone. No help from my wife or my mom whatsoever. Reason? My mom went on holiday for a week, and my wife just joined a new company and couldn’t take any annual leave yet. So, as a responsible father and husband (chewah!), i took 1 week leave to take care of Nadia.
Mind you, i never actually took care of Nadia alone yet for the past 7 months. The most i did is play with her when my wife is taking a shower, feed her milk, and play with her till she’s sleepy again when she woke up in the middle of the nights. That’s it. I can practically count using both my hands the times i actually change the diapers for her. So, my mom and wife actually asked if i could do it – 1 week alone with Nadia.
For me, it was “just do it and deal with anything later on”. It was quite daunting as i never actually bath her on my own. On weekends that leads to this week i was supposed to learn the trade but guess i never really got my hands into it as there’s always my wife to the rescue. This time, i got to handle dirty diapers, bath, putting Nadia into bouncer getting her to sleep – all by myself. And i still have to feed myself.
Frankly, it’s actually kinda fun although there were times i felt very tired – changing diapers and clothes are always the challenging tasks. Beats carrying tv stands up and down 5 storeys! Have survived yesterday and today only left like 4 hours to go before my wife is back and takes over. Frankly, i’m kinda proud of myself for being able to do this all by myself! Heh.
