Going global

Being in this new role requires me to think global. Imagine the team that i lead is supporting the European region, while all the while all the members are located in Penang. That’s like half a world away! To me, the experience was good – never had the chance of dealing with anybody from outside of our Asian region.

Not sure if it’s a good or bad thing but being global make me realised something – that we Asians are working like dogs! Well, if you don’t like that word, let’s just say we are definitely overworked compared to our counterparts in the US and European regions. A lot of activities that are done here are not even taken up by the same team in the US and Europe.

Maybe it’s time for us to just step back a bit and look at what we are doing, and stop doing what we are not supposed to do? Frankly, i don’t know if we Asians are capable of doing that. Me? I think i’ll do what my US counterparts would do after working hours – look for Cyber Monday deals! Hehe.

One Response to “Going global”

To be fair, some of the Austin folks work like ‘dogs’ too. I had some team members in Austin who worked just as hard as the Asians. It’s the EMEA folks that are erm…abit relaxed.

Altho, I noticed that the EMEA folks tend to work smart. We Asians work hard. That’s the difference, my friend :)

And oh, do be careful of the ‘global bug’. A lot of folks I know lets the bug get to their head…and they start walking around like they are a class above the rest of the mortals. Can’t stand those kinda buggers! I was very conscious to not portray that kinda image when I was wearing my global hat.

Happy global-ing! :)
